About Burkina Faso

"Land of the Upright People" is the literal translation of Burkina Faso. While you might think this pertains to land of the humans, there is a range of creatures living in this landlocked country. Their is another translation which is more fitting, "Land of Honorable People". Burkinabe people are said to be very proud and welcoming people. Burkina, for short, was colonized by the French until 1960. The french colonization resulted in the national language being french, however, something along the lines of only 18% of the population actually speak it. More popular languages coincide with the 60 different ethnic groups, with the largest being the Mossi who speak Moore.

Right smack dab in the heart of west Africa, Burkina Faso is neighbored by Mali, Niger, Togo, Ghana, Benin, and Cote D'ivorie. About the size of Colorado, this country has a tropical climate with two main season: wet and dry. Their two predominant exports, cotton and livestock, are prone to considerable price and yield fluctuations leading to Burkina Faso's classification as one of the world's poorest countries.
